GREAT NEWS from our friends at NCTC!

*** Balagan Theatre is striving to celebrate not only our own productions, but also the work of other artists in our community. We are pleased to share with you the success of New Century Theatre Company!

ORANGE FLOWER WATER - RECAP

Thanks to all for making our second production, Craig Wright's Orange Flower Water the hottest show of the summer! We had an incredible audience turnout (including three sold-out performances), continued to build our donor base, and received some of the best reviews this year. Incredibly - and for the second time in a row! - NCTC closed a show "in the black". Take that, economic recession!

PIPELINE

Did you know that we have a monthly play reading? Did you know admission is free?Up next is Friedrich Durrenmatt's satiric drama The Physicists, directed by Hans Altwies and featuring the enormous talents of Anne Allgood, Russell Hodgkinson, Bradford Farwell, Emily Chisholm, Michael Patten, Jen Taylor and Peter Dylan O'Connor.

Often recognized as the most impressive and accessible work of this prolific Swiss writer's career, The Physicists is a provocative and darkly comic satire about life in modern times. Written in 1962 and surprisingly relevant today, the play deals with recent advances in science and nuclear technology.

Outlandishly theatrical...and with a strong dose of absurdity...The Physicists raises questions of scientific ethics and mankind's ability to handle its intellectual responsibilities. Monday, August 24th at 7:30pm.Solo Bar in Queen Anne. 200 Roy St. (206) 213-0080Admission is free. Donations are gratefully accepted.

Welcome to the Chaos Chronicle!

Chaos in the world brings uneasiness, but it also allows the opportunity for creativity and growth.

Did you know that the word "Balagan" means chaos or fiasco? It is a Hebrew word chosen when Balagan Theatre was founded by Jake Groshong and Kaitie Warren during their travels in the Middle East. The company was formed in 2006, and continues to grow in heart, passion, and creativity.

"Balagan means “total chaos.” But this word is unique, because contrary to the implied negative value the concept has in other languages, the subtext of balagan is positive. True, that positiveness is not overt—a bit like a proud parent trying to hide a smile from his mischief-making son—but it is completely there. But chaos for a society that is itself full of balagan is nothing less than proof of vitality and passion."

Come see this "vitality and passion" on display in our 2009 Season Opening Show, The Search For Signs of Intelligent Life In The Universe. This show is a searing and joyful reminder of why it is so wonderful to be a resident of the planet Earth. We are very excited to have Balagan Company Member and amazingly talented Terri Weagant (Arabian Nights, Othello, Picasso at the Lapin Agile) take the audience on a woerfully comic and painfully true roller coaster ride to the center of the heart.
